It’s ilia, the creator behind this little jewelry brand you’ve probably seen popping up on your feed (hopefully, anyway 😅). I thought I’d kick off my first ever blog post by talking about something that’s become a huge part of my work: opal! That iridescent, dreamy stone that looks like it’s holding tiny galaxies inside ✨ If you’ve ever seen opal in the light, you know exactly what I mean! 🤩
When I first started working with polymer clay, I had no idea opal would become such a signature part of my designs. I was drawn to color, texture, and making pieces that stood out, but something about opal just pulled me in. There’s a glow to it that feels almost alive. It shifts, catches the light in unexpected ways, and adds this depth that makes every piece truly feel one of a kind 💖
Of course, working with opal clay isn’t as simple as rolling it out and calling it a day. The clay itself comes pre-mixed by Sculpey Premo (I’m actually part of the Sculpey Squad, which is pretty cool! 🥰), but that doesn’t mean the process is easy. What really takes time is sanding, buffing, and refining each piece to get that flawless, glassy finish. A lot of people don’t realize how much work goes into that part! It’s the difference between something that looks handmade in a meh way and something that looks high end. It takes a lot of patience, but to me, it’s worth it! 🫶
Beyond just looking pretty, opal represents transformation and individuality, which is exactly what I want my jewelry to embody. No two pieces are ever exactly alike, and that’s what makes them special!
For me, this isn’t about churning out new products nonstop. I put so much thought, time, and care into every single piece I make, and I want them to be meaningful, not just trendy for a second, but something you truly love wearing. Whether you’re drawn to opal because of its one of a kind shimmer or just because you love stunning statement jewelry, I hope you can feel the heart that goes into every piece.
